PE
PE at Hobbayne
Here at Hobbayne we are passionate about giving our children the opportunity to take part, succeed and enjoy a variety of different sports and physical activities. Enjoying physical activity helps children to lead a happier and healthier life which they can then take with them as they grow into young adults. If we can develop this in early childhood research has shown a much greater likelihood of being physically active into adulthood, and we therefore aim to foster this love of physical activity during our students’ formative years. We aim to provide a range of extra-curricular sports and activity clubs that all pupils can access and enjoy.
Through physical education we teach and develop physical competence, an appreciation of skilled and creative performances, understanding of basic principles of ‘fair play’ and development of inter personal skills. Through sport and other physical activities our children learn about their responsibilities both as individuals and members of groups and teams. They learn to cooperate and to compete fairly, understanding their own and others’ roles.
The clubs on offer normally for the year include:
- Dodgeball
- Girls Football
- Boys Football
- New Age Kurling
- Netball
- Ballet
- Change For Life
However due to Covid-19 restrictions the school has had to limit the number of clubs on offer for this year so far.
We provide our pupils to take part in a number of intra-school sporting competitions, with the culmination of this in the form of our team sports- focused ‘multi-sports day’, alongside our summer traditional sports day.
We compete in a number of inter-school competitions including boys and girls Football, Quickticks Hockey, New Age Kurling, Change For Life festival, Boccia, Netball, Tennis, Tri-Golf, Athletics, Cricket, Cross-Country, Basketball, Multi-Skills festival. Hobbayne was the first school in Ealing where the girls won the first ever football borough championships.
We encourage our students to take on positions of responsibility within the area of sport and physical activity and we currently have 20 trained Playground Leaders, 12 students which form the School Sports Organising Committee, alongside our two Sports Ambassadors.
We work collaboratively with the Willowtree School Sports Partnership Team, who provide many opportunities for staff to be trained in all areas of PE teaching, as well as providing many of the opportunities for inter-school competition.
We have maintained our Gold Sainsbury’s School Games Kitemark for 3 years now which illustrates our continued commitment to school sport and physical activity.
REAL PE
In order for us to provide the curriculum identified above, we use REAL PE. REAL PE is a philosophy and approach which aims to transform how PE is taught to include challenge and support for EVERY child. It supports teachers and others to make small changes that will have a significant impact on every learner.
It focuses on the fundamental movement skills of a child's physical development:
* Agility
* Balance
* Coordination
Real PE develops the whole child, each term there is a multi ability focus:
* Personal
* Social
* Cognitive
* Creative
* Physical
* Health and Fitness
The reasons as to why REAL PE is so effective is because:
- It provides a child centred approach that transforms how PE is taught to include and engage every child
- It develops the key abilities that children need to be successful in PE and Sport and across the curriculum
- It inspires teachers to enjoy teaching PE and transforms their confidence to deliver outstanding lessons
Gold Mark
We are very proud to have been awarded the Gold School Games Kitemark for three years running now. This validates all of the amazing PE opportunities that continue to be available to all of our children at Hobbayne.
