Our Remote Learning Provision
School is closed to most pupils. From Tuesday 5 January, school is open to:
Children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable.
All other pupils will learn at home using Microsoft Teams. This is a different and more improved offer compared to lockdown in March, where the school did not have the required infrastructure to manage a high quality online learning platform as we do now. There will always be daily contact with your class teachers, through live sessions as well as the chat function of Microsoft Teams. Some teachers are working in school to teach children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable. Other teachers are working at home and will support those pupils learning at home. Sometimes the feedback given to your child may be another teacher from the same year group, as your child's class teacher may be in school teaching.
Spanish, Music and PE lessons will also be provided by your teachers. Pupils must complete the learning at home using Microsoft Teams. Teachers will be checking the quality of pupils' work and talking to them about their tasks during their live sessions.
Support staff will also be conducting intervention groups with small groups of children and teachers will also be working with smaller groups at different times of the day, just as they would normally at school. Sometimes it could be to extend the learning or to consolidate a concept that your child may be struggling with. These groupings will be fluid and will respond to the various needs of the class as they may arise.
In order to ensure that learning is continued, irrespective of lockdown and self-isolation, Hobbayne has developed the following plan. This plan offers high quality and broad remote learning opportunities with a mix of online and offline resources. Year groups have been kept in bubbles to minimise the number of pupils being isolated at any one time. We recognise that younger pupils and those with SEND may not be able to access remote education without adult support and so a range of activities will be offered and the remote learning curriculum will be age appropriate.
We will aim to teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate. However, we have needed to make some adaptations in some subjects. For example, (if the science topic requires hands on investigations, we may change the science topic to one from later in the school year that lends itself to being taught remotely through videos, and other information sources. The practical science topic will then be taught when the school reopens.)
Remote teaching and study time each day
We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:
Nursery - Minimum number of hours each day is 1 hour, teachers will aim to set 1-2 hours of learning each day.
Reception - Minimum number of hours each day is 2 hours, teacher will aim to set 3 hours of work each day.
Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) - Minimum number of hours each day is 3 hours, teachers will aim to set 3-4 hours of work each day.
Key Stage 2 (Years 3,4,5, and 6) - Minimum number of hours each is 4 hours, teachers will aim to set 4-5 hours of work each day.
Behaviour online is expected to be as good as behaviour is in school. The 6Rs are still as important today as ever.

- Don’t be tempted to make unkind remarks in retaliation
- The school will investigate and let you know they have dealt with it
- If parents or carers notice unkind or inappropriate comments or behaviours online on our teaching and learning platforms, please get straight in touch with the school
